Biodiverse planting ideal for pollinators
Project Plan Image

The Plan

Individual house pods are connected by flowing swathes of planting, echoing the woven strands of a basket. Native species are central to the design, supporting local biodiversity by attracting birds, bees, and other pollinators, while pockets of productive and picking gardens invite seasonal engagement and nourishment.

Planting is richly layered and detailed, offering texture, scent, and colour close to daily life. Further from the house, these strands open into broad swathes of easy-care plants that gently settle into the wider landscape.

The Plant Palette

The design takes inspiration from the traditional woven forms of Tukutuku panels and Kete baskets, symbols of connection, craft, and care. Just as each strand in a weave holds significance, the biodiverse garden and architecture are thoughtfully interlaced, creating a living tapestry that binds house and land together.
